Space Seed Holdings Showcases Longevity Innovations at ASEAN Well-being Forum
Space Seed Holdings, represented by its subsidiary Regenesome Inc., participated in the Research & Innovation Forum ¡°Realizing Well-being in ASEAN Through Advanced Technologies,¡± held on November 19, 2024, at Sunway University, Malaysia. The event focused on showcasing cutting-edge technological solutions to address pressing health and wellness challenges in the ASEAN region.
Dr. Kengo’s Session
Dr. Kengo, CEO of Regenesome Inc., underscored the urgent need to bridge the gap between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy during his presentation. While advancements in medical science have significantly extended lifespans, aging-related diseases and physical limitations continue to compromise quality of life. Dr. Kengo proposed solutions that integrate research, development, and healthcare services tailored to the ASEAN region, leveraging Japanese innovations to address these challenges.
In his session, Dr. Kengo introduced Regenesome¡¯s vision for the future of exosome-based therapies, which represent a promising frontier in longevity science. He shared the concept of an advanced exosome sorter, a groundbreaking technology under development, which aims to provide precision, scalability, and accessibility in producing therapeutic exosomes. This technology, once realized, could revolutionize how bioactive compounds are delivered to cells, enabling more effective and personalized treatments for aging-related conditions.
Dr. Kengo also highlighted existing products and promising materials, including sake rich in ¦Á-EG developed in collaboration with Tsunan Sake Brewery, SAKESOME¡ªnanoparticles derived from the sake brewing process¡ªand the potential healthcare applications of fucoxanthin and butterfly pea, both derived from microalgae. By combining cutting-edge molecular biology and fermentation techniques with sustainable practices, Regenesome is paving the way for solutions that enhance longevity and well-being while respecting cultural and environmental values. Additionally, he introduced the pioneering fund ¡±Fermentation and Longevity Fund¡± launched by Space Seed Holdings, designed to support proof-of-concept projects within 18 months. This initiative emphasizes the company¡¯s commitment to bridging innovative research with practical applications that benefit society.
Presentations by Other Speakers
Mr. Boon Lee Chiam, Director of Sustainable Food Asia Sdn. Bhd., highlighted the alarming prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Malaysia, such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol, which pose significant public health challenges. He revealed that one in five adults in Malaysia has diabetes, with 84% of young adults aged 18¨C29 unaware of their condition. This lack of awareness delays intervention, exacerbating the disease burden. Mr. Chiam emphasized the urgent need for sustainable health solutions and proposed innovative strategies involving dietary changes and education to combat the rising prevalence of these conditions.
Masakatsu Siozuka from Japan System Techniques Co., Ltd. (JAST) explained that the company’s Healthcare Innovation Business Division provides solutions for insurers, including claims review, data analysis, and support for health promotion programs. He also highlighted the potential to expand JAST’s business areas beyond Japan, particularly in Malaysia and the ASEAN region, through initiatives such as the Future Co-creation Laboratory and the ASEAN Business Division.
Professor Goh Bey Hing, a prominent academic from Sunway University¡¯s School of Medical and Life Sciences and Sunway Biofunctional Molecules Discovery Centre, specializes in nutritional biochemistry with a focus on biofunctional molecules and their impact on health. As the Head of the Sunway Biofunctional Molecules Discovery Centre, he oversees research into innovative health solutions, particularly in functional foods and bioactive compounds. His work has been instrumental in advancing collaborations aimed at addressing modern health challenges, including the development of sustainable, science-backed approaches to improve public health across the ASEAN region.
Student Competition
In addition to these insightful discussions, the forum launched the ¡°Innovate for Longevity: Health and Wellness Challenge,¡± a student-focused competition sponsored by Regenesome. The initiative invites young innovators to develop solutions promoting longevity and improving quality of life, inspired by Japanese technological advances.
Forum Outcomes
The forum successfully served as a platform to foster cross-border collaboration and inspire innovative approaches to achieving a healthier future for ASEAN. Space Seed Holdings, through Regenesome, continues to expand its global biotechnology footprint, contributing groundbreaking solutions to longevity and sustainable well-being.
